I was delighted to be asked by fellow Crouch Ender Mari Wilson to play in her all star line up for the climax of the Crouch End Festival last weekend. Along with her glamorous self appeared West End star Sue Kelvin, actress Sue Johnston, jazz fave song smith and pianist Ian Shaw and sax giant Jean Toussaint of jazz messengers fame, oh, and little ole me. The band were superb – headed by the totally versatile virtuoso pianist Alistair Gavin who is currently musical director of the West End’s production of Mamma Mia.
The weather was frankly not as nice as it could have been, in fact there was a savage storm towards the end of the event that threatened to blow up the sound desk and give Mari a new beehive just by holding the mic but the crowd were incredible and stuck around dancing and grooving like crazy. So a really warm reception for all of us and lots of money raised for good causes by the 20th annual fun run earlier that day. Great stuff; makes one proud to be an honourary North Londoner.
