#thegriefsessions EP
My track Carcass from my forthcoming EP #thegriefsessions has recently been broadcast by BBC introducing in the East Midlands AND I’ve just been told it has subsequently been playlisted for next week (starting Monday 17th April) in the daytime on BBC Radio Nottingham!
I hope you can tune in! You can pre-order #thegriefsessions EP on all major download sites now like the iTunes store – look it up.. Proceeds from ‘I Cry in My Car’ will go to Hayward House Hospice where my husband was cared for at the end. Here’s an interview about the EP I did on Notts TV Last Night – the still aptly makes me look like I’m having a seizure.
Following the death of her beloved husband William O’Shea on 15th March 2022, jazz singer, pianist and songwriter Jeanie Barton turned to music to help her heal.
This new EP #thegriefsessions out digitally on 27th April 2023, (Will’s birthday) features 3 tracks written since his passing.
- I Cry in my Car (a bit Carpenters/Gilbert O’Sullivan)
- Lonely Like the Moon (1950s style – a touch of Amy Winehouse/Dinah Washington)
- Carcass (a witty ska/jazz song with lyrics reminiscent of Chas and Dave/Victoria Wood)
Vocals/keys/compositions by Jeanie Barton, Bass/percussion/production by Simon Paterson, m featuring saxophonist Ben Martin on Carcass.
These tracks chart her feelings of loss; navigating single life after 17 years as part of a couple and suddenly becoming a single parent, plus dealing with the odd character who is not so kind. More cathartic and fun than it perhaps sounds, these compositions have already had audiences at the Pizza Express club in Chelsea and beyond crying, clapping, laughing, stomping and swearing in support.
Everyone has their problems and these songs are relatable to most if not all listeners.
“Very powerful, just divine”

“Great!! Catchy as hell!”

“Jeanie is a joyous performer with an effortless style…”
